Alna finished school in Vereeniging, South Africa in 1985 and obtained a BMus degree and HED from the PU for CHE (currently the Northwest University) in 1990. She sang in the University Choir conducted by Awie van Wyk and still as a student, she started a singing ensemble who ended up as finalists in the well-known ATKV Crescendo light music competition. From 1991 to 1996 she taught music at different schools. During this time she was part of a teacher theatre group from Hoërskool Die Wilgers in 1992/93 that participated in the ATKV drama competition and reached the finals. She also formed part of the Cabaret ‘Reisplan’ which made a debut at Aardklop 2001, and released a CD in March 2002.

In 1996, she founded her own business ‘MusicaNova’ which specialises in music printing and arrangements for choirs, singing groups and instrumental ensembles. Choirs and groups throughout South Africa and internationally use these works in concerts and competitions. From 2009 MusicaNova also started recording professionally as a new line of business, and since then did several recording projects for school productions, an educational project for CAMI (Computer aided maths instruction), and a classical recording for violin and piano, and a children CD which is to be released soon. MusicaNova is currently involved in the music preparation for the movie musical ‘Line out’.

In 2001 she did all the transcriptions and printing for a project by AMCT (Africa Music and Choral Trust) when a choral album of indigenous African choral music was published.

From 2002-2007 she had her own music studio in Nelspruit and taught singing, violin, piano and theory of music. Over these years she founded and conducted several choirs and singing groups and was also part of a classical string trio that performed in and around Nelspruit.

Since 2005 she was appointed as the musical director for several school productions throughout the country, responsible for the music arrangements, vocal coaching and recording of the production CD’s.

Since 1991 to 2015 she was a member of the Johannesburg based Chanticleer chamber choir. She joined this group on several tours national and international, and made recordings for the SABC as well as CD recordings. She performed as soloist with the group on a regular basis. She is a regular soloist for the Pretoria Bach Choir.

She is musical director and organist at her congregation, and manages the band that leads them in praise and worship.

She performed as a backing singer with Helmut Lotti during three of his South African tours.

She adjudicates choirs, vocal work and instrumental music on a regular basis at Eisteddfods and arts festivals throughout the country.
